Uhl & Barot Valley – Mandi District 

 

Surrounded by deodar forests and situated along the clear Uhl River, Barot is ideal for travellers seeking quiet charm and a digital detox. From riverside trails to homestay life, everything here moves at a gentle pace.
Nearby lies Prashar Lake, a magical high-altitude spot with a floating island and expansive Himalayan views—perfect for a day trip.

Barot to Prashar Distance: ~50 km (about 2.5–3 hours by road)

How to Reach:
Accessible by road from Mandi (70 km) or Jogindernagar (40 km). Nearest airport: Bhuntar (Kullu-Manali). Nearest railhead: Jogindernagar.


Rajgarh & Baru Sahib – Sirmaur District  


Known for its plum and peach orchards, forest views, and hidden waterfalls, Rajgarh offers a soft landing in nature. A short drive away is Baru Sahib, the “Valley of Divine Peace,” a spiritual Sikh space that blends holistic education with sewa, kirtan, and calm reflection.

Nearby Nohradhar serves as the starting point to Churdhar Peak, the highest in the outer Himalayas, ideal for trekkers and nature lovers.

This spiritual district is surrounded by ridges, quiet villages, and pine forests. It's home to Jatoli Mahadev, one of India’s tallest Shiva temples, and Menri Monastery, a serene Bon heritage site in Dolanji.

Jibhi 

Nestled amidst cedar forests and gentle streams, Jibhi is a tranquil, postcard-perfect village serving as a base for many explorations. Its traditional wooden houses, small cafes, and nearby waterfalls make it a favourite for writers, artists, and those seeking quietude.


Serolsar Lake & Jalori Pass 

Just beyond Jibhi, Jalori Pass opens up to panoramic Himalayan views. A well-trodden forest trail (about 5 km one way) from the pass leads to Serolsar Lake—a clear, sacred alpine waterbody revered for its tranquil setting and mythology.

How to Reach:
Located about 50 km from Aut Tunnel on the Delhi–Manali highway. Jibhi and Jalori Pass are reachable by local taxi or bus via Banjar from Aut.


Shimla Hinterlands – Shimla District  


Beyond touristy Shimla lie lesser-known gems like Fagu, Kotkhai, Pabbar Valley, and the renowned Tatta Pani.

  • Fagu: Known for its lush apple orchards and rolling meadows, perfect for peaceful countryside stays and long, misty walks.
     
  • Kotkhai & Pabbar Valley: Offer untamed mountain scenery, heritage hiking routes, and authentic village hospitality in traditional Himachali homes.
     
  • Tatta Pani: Famous for its natural hot water springs along the banks of the river Satluj. A bathing dip in these springs is believed to have therapeutic value, making it a soothing stop on your mindful journey.

  • Key Monastery (Ki/Kee): A secluded hilltop space above the Spiti River, known for its chanting monks and ancient scrolls.
     
  • Dhankar Monastery & Lake: Dramatically perched; the serene glacial lake is about a 3 km trek from the monastery—plan 1.5–2 hours uphill at high altitude for rewarding views.
     
  • Chandratal (“Lake of the Moon”): A crescent-shaped, turquoise Himalayan lake—ideal for reflection, stargazing, and camping.

How to Reach:
Via Manali (June–October) through Rohtang and Kunzum Pass; year-round via Shimla/Kinnaur to Kaza. Closest towns: Kaza for Key/Dhankar, Batal for Chandratal.
